Warm greetings to all Concord students and families!
As Juneteenth approaches, I hope you have a delightful long weekend filled with joy, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones. Take this opportunity to reflect on the significance of this important holiday and celebrate the progress made towards equality.

Current Medications at School, Paperwork and Student Physicals
If your child has school medications, please note that the distribution of those will be the week of June 26-28. You will need to sign a receipt of return when picking up. Medications will need to be brought back in for the new school year the first week of school along w the medication authorization forms.
Please have in mind that medication authorization forms need to be filled out every school year. Therefore this is a perfect time to schedule your child’s yearly physicals and take the needed paperwork to be filled out along w any changes. The district requires certain vaccines, to prevent student exclusion next year. Please make sure to schedule your students. If you have any questions about medications at school, please reach out to Nurse Celina cmjimenez@seattleschools.org.

From City Year
“To add to the fun festivities as we wrap up the school year, City Year will be hosting a Summer Solstice Celebration on Wednesday, June 21st, 4:30-6!
Some of the activities we are planning include tables with explanations of how different cultures celebrate the Summer Solstice, arts and crafts stations, ice cream, yoga, and potentially more! We hope to see y’all there!”
“For City Year’s last week at Concord, we will be hosting one final Spirit Week! For this Spirit Week, we bring back a few favorites, as well as some new themes. Students and staff, y’all have done a wonderful job of showcasing your outfits for Spirit Weeks all year. Let’s finish strong!”
Field Day is Here!
We are excited to announce Concord Field Day will be held on Thursday, June 22. Please note that most activities are outside, and several activities contain water. It may be wise to have your student bring a change of clothes, or wear clothes that are appropriate for getting wet. We welcome parent volunteers and observers, and I could specifically use about 8 volunteers starting around 8:30am. If anyone in the community would like to come and participate and help us have some fun, please contact Keith Lindahl (PE Teacher) kelindahl@seattleschools.org.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to a day of fun and teamwork as we end our year together.

Concord is focusing on Attendance
During the week of June 5-9, 205 students out of 300 students attended school every day (All 5 days). This is 68% of all students coming each day of the week. That is a decrease of 3% from the week before.
HEPA Air Purifier at Seattle Public Schools
HEPA air purifiers filter and trap at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and other airborne particles. The exposure to tiny particles in the air are linked to a variety of health problems.
Clean air in schools is important because airborne contaminants can have neurodevelopmental affects and worsen academic performance. Indoor air quality varies form much worse to much better than outdoor air quality depending on a variety of factors. Using a HEPA air filter in the classroom is one way to increase equity across schools by providing all students with the best possible air quality. Concord is working with Paulina Lopez and other community members to maintain the HEPA Air Purifies in the school monthly.
Concord is focusing on Math Fact Fluency!
What is math fact fluency?
Math fact fluency is the ability for students to quickly recall addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts through conceptual learning, fact strategies, and memorization. The goal is for students to reach automaticity by being able to think through math facts problems quickly and efficiently and/or having the answers at their fingertips. A general rule of thumb is for students to be able to answer fact fluency problems within 3 seconds.
Grade Level Goals for Math Fact Fluency by the end of June 2023
- Kindergarten: fluently add or subtract within 5
- 1st Grade: fluently add or subtract within 10
- 2nd Grade: fluently add or subtract within 20
- 3rd-5th Grades: fluently add or subtract within 20, fluently multiply or divide within 10
Why focus on math fact fluency?
Math fact fluency contributes to students’ ability to solve more difficult (more digits or multi-step) problems quicker and more accurately.
Math Fact Fluency Tips for Families
Kindergarten-Grade 2: Practice Recalling Subtraction Facts
Practice one set of basic subtraction facts at a time until your child has quick recall of that set of facts. For example, practice the subtraction facts involving 1. Then, practice another set of facts. Join the two sets and practice them together. Continue this until all the basic subtraction facts can be quickly recalled.

- 1st Grade (0-10)
- 2nd Grade (0-20)

Concord International is partnering with The South Park Branch of the Seattle Public Library
Who: Students who attend Concord International
What: Play FUN math games or do FUN math activities to practice learning Math facts at the South Park Public Library. After completing math games and activities at the library, students will be given a ticket for raffle drawings at Concord International to win prizes.
When: Now until the end of June 2023

HEPA Air Purifier at Seattle Public Schools
