    Dear Concord International School Families,

    This year was a year of learning together as students, staff, administration and families.  Our family events were well attended and provided our families and community an opportunity to get to know each other and learn more about our school.  Through family engagement, our parents were represented on all our building committees. They dedicated countless hours of their time to engage in learning about the importance of biliteracy in a dual language program. This involved numerous meetings at the school and at the district level to represent Concord International School to ensure the best possible literacy program for both our Traditional and Dual Programs.   Faculty and parents have successfully secured a Spanish reading and writing curriculum as a resource for our teachers in the Spanish dual program.  We look forward to our work this summer with our dedicated teachers using our new literacy resource for fall of 2018.  

    Our family volunteers were extraordinary as they supported our school through activities such as: providing the weekly bags of food, supervision on field trips, crossing guard support, putting together the back to school packets, helping teachers in the classrooms, setting up events, working on our sound system, providing food for teacher appreciation week, fund raising as well as  gifting us words of encouragement and smiles. Thank you for all that you have done to support our school this year and thank you for selecting Concord International School as the school for your student(s).

    Changes in Staffing: It is always difficult to have to say good bye to our colleagues at Concord International School. We wish them well in their new pursuits in the field of education and we thank them for their many contributions to our children and community.

    Departures:

    • Ms. Monica Barajas- current 3rd grade Dual Language teacher, will transition to Edmonds School District

    • Ms. Angela Klaassen- current 4/5 grade Dual Language teacher, transitioning to McDonald International School

    • Ms. Amanda Hubbard- current 3rd grade Dual Language teacher, will transition 0.5 FTE to Kimball Elementary

    • Ms. Liliana Ramirez- current ELL Instructional Assistant, will transition to graduate school in Spain

    • Ms. Monserrat Delavigne- current 4/5 Dual Language teacher, will transition out of state

    • Ms. Annika Mizuta- current Assistant Principal, will transition to District Level Title 1 Math Coach

    New Arrivals:  We are excited to welcome our new colleagues to Concord International School.

    Summer: Concord International school will not be offering a summer program on site or SPS Kindergarten Jump Start in August. There will be free breakfast and lunch offered through the federal summer eating program – it will be available for students and families ages 0-18 in the cafeteria. Breakfast will be from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. The YMCA at Concord International School and South Park Community both offer summer programs for students. The South Park Seattle Public Library will be offering various summer programs. There will be construction happening this summer in partnership with Department of Neighborhoods and PTA grant to improve the front entrance and field area of our school. The YMCA entrance on the playground and parking lot will be accessible for summer program use.

     

    Back to School: As we know many of you prepare for school as soon as you see the back to school sales.  We want to let you know that this year students in all K-5 classes will not be asked to bring any specific school supplies to school. Each student should have a backpack to bring their school work between home and school during the school year.  Please let the office know if you need support in getting a back pack. Classroom lists will be posted on Thursday, August 30th at 5:00pm here at school for students to find out who their homeroom teacher will be.

    1st – 5th Grade First Day of School: Wednesday, September 5th

     

    Kindergarten First Day of School: Monday, September 10th

    Breakfast in the cafeteria begins at 8:30 a.m. – free for all students!

    Class begins at 8:55 a.m.

    Class ends at 3:25 p.m.

    Before/After School Program: This next year City Year will be inviting 3rd-5th grade focus students to participate in the before school Puma Academy for reading and math support. After school we will be partnering with different Community Based Organizations to offer enrichment opportunities. This tentatively includes: Girls on the Run, Soccer Club, STEAM, Let Me Run. More information about these programs will be shared this fall!

    Save the Date: We look forward to meeting you and your family at the community building back to school event which will hosted by the PTA and Concord International School on Thursday, September 13th.  This coming school year instead of having one fall curriculum night we will be holding three grade level information sessions the afternoons (Fall, Winter, Spring). At these information meetings teachers will sharing with families what the students are learning, ways to support students at home and enrichment experiences for the trimester.  The first one will be held on September 27th families from 3:45-4:15 p.m.
